Technical Sergeant (Ret.) Norm Nelson is a Vietnam War veteran who served twenty-two years in the military as an ammo troop. He enlisted as a young Airman Basic in September 1956. His assignments took him to Texas, Colorado, Nevada, Utah, Hawaii, and to Italy, Korea, Japan, Thailand, Vietnam, and Taiwan. Nelson spent a total of 38 months in Vietnam during the Vietnam War. He was also a member of the Air Force Honor Guard. His honor guard team participated in the funeral of President Kennedy upon his assassination in 1963. He retired from service in 1978.
Nelson is a member of the Veterans of Foreign War (VFW), post 1965 in Brigham City, Utah. He held the position of state commander, VFW Department of Utah. He loves the military and gives back to the community by volunteering as a tour guide at the Hill Aerospace Museum in Roy, Utah several times a week. Nelson lives in Perry, Utah with his wife Willeta ‘Willy’ Nelson of 50 years.
