Charles McGee

Colonel (Ret.) Charles E. McGee Jr. was one of the famed "Tuskegee Airmen," and served as a fighter pilot during World Warr II, Korea and Vietnam. He achieved the highest three-war fighter mission total of any Air Force aviator. McGee flew his first combat mission on February 14, 1944. He completed 136 combat missions flying the P-39Q Airacobra, P-47D Thunderbolt and the P-51 Mustang, escorting bombers over Germany, Austria and the Balkans. In 1950, with the Korean War looming, McGee jumped back into the cockpit of the Mustang (renamed the F-51) after a six year hiatus. He flew 100 interdiction missions from Johnson Air Force Base, Japan. Then, in 1967, he was ordered to Vietnam where he flew 173 reconnaissance missions in the RF-4C. In 30 years of service, he flew 409 fighter combat missions, an Air Force record.

In 2005, McGee was part of a group of former Tuskegee Airmen who flew to Balad, Iraq, to speak to active duty Airmen serving in the 332nd Expeditionary Wing, the current incarnation of the 332nd Fighter Group. He also continues to attend events worldwide, sharing his experiences and knowledge of the Tuskegee Airmen
