Herb Trimpe

Senior Airman (Sep.) Herb Trimpe enlisted in the Air Force in 1962 as a weather observer.  After graduating from his technical training, he was assigned to Fort Benning, Ga.  In 1965, he deployed in support of U.S. operations in Vietnam.  Trimpe would provide valuable weather data, which helped U.S. forces plan operations throughout the region.  Shortly after returning from Vietnam, he honorably separated from the Air Force.

Not long after, he was hired on at Marvel Comics.  During his tenure, he drew many famous comics, including the Hulk, Wolverine and G.I. Joe.  In addition to Trimpe’s comic book and Air Force careers, he’s also a church deacon.  Within a week after the Sept. 11, 2001, terrorist attacks, Trimpe made a trip to Ground Zero in New York City because he felt that he “just needed to be there.”  He would fulfill roles as a Red Cross chaplain, giving spiritual guidance, but focused his duties on escorting remains from Ground Zero to the morgue.  Currently, Trimpe draws comics on a freelance basis and continues to practice his faith in his local church.  He is proud to have lived a life of service, in and out of uniform.
