Suzanne LaForest

Major (Ret.) Suzanne LaForest was born March 18, 1949, in Manchester, New Hampshire, the second oldest of five siblings. After receiving a degree in nursing from the University of New Hampshire, she moved to Nashua to work as a critical care nurse at St. Joseph’s Hospital. The recruiter at Pease Air National Guard Base contacted her and three weeks later she raised her right hand and was commissioned in the Air Force. By August 1989 she was at the 60th Medical Group, Travis Air Force Base, California, as the assistant nurse manager. In January 1991 LaForest deployed to Nocton Hall, England, in support of Operation Desert Storm. She led a team of 11 nurses caring for burn victims out of a converted World War II barracks. Through her faith and focus on her patients, LaForest made it home stronger than when she left. One of her favorite assignments was at the Air Force Academy in Colorado. LaForest ensured proper care to new cadets, and oversaw medical safety of the football team during games. She ended her career at Hill Air Force Base, Utah, with the 75th Medical Group. Since retiring in 2009, she remains a member of Team Hill through her volunteer work at the “clinics” pharmacy.
